The leg press, a type of resistance training exercise, is an excellent way to strengthen your legs. It is done by pushing your legs against weights on a leg press machine. Like all strength training exercises, leg presses build muscle, reduce the risk of injury, and counteract age-related muscle loss.
Brace your abdominal muscles and push the platform away with your heels and forefoot. Your heels should remain flat on the footplate. The front of your foot or toes should never be used exclusively to move the pad forward. While exhaling, extend your legs and keep your head and back flat against the seat pad.
The leg press mainly works the quadriceps, but also strengthens the glutes, ham strings, calves and shins.
